Our Story

Local Family Business

Sustainable Plant Design was established in 2008 by Ian and Angela Sole.

Ian is a certified Builder in Landscape Construction with professional membership in The Landscape Association of NSW (Master Landscapers). Together with his formal qualifications, Ian has over 35 years of experience in stormwater drainage, plant establishment & propagation, weed & pest control, large scale earthworks including dam and road construction, vegetation clearing and land management.

Ian was a past President of a local Landcare Group where he was instrumental in project coordination of conservation and rehabilitation of large riparian zones and native remnant vegetation.

Ian also holds a Diploma of Agriculture and a degree in Financial Administration.

Angela is a trained scientist, educator and Landscape Designer. As a horticulturist she is a registered member of the Australian Institute of Horticulture. After establishing a 3 acre garden her interest in design and horticulture led to a landscape design & horticultural media career in areas such as the Northern NSW Coordinator for the Australia’s Open Garden Scheme, Garden Club of Australia New England/North West representative, garden writer for local newspapers and stints on ABC Radio to promote gardens in the New England/North West. Angela has a strong interest in historic country garden restoration and is involved with the Australian Garden History Society. Her love of Australian plants has led to a passion researching the food, medicinal and cultural benefits as used by Aboriginal peoples.

Together, Ian and Angela with their team, offer a complete Landscape Design and Building Construction service. Their combined skills ensure that clients have a professional garden layout unique to their client’s requirements, complete with plantings and structures that will stand the test of time. We look forward to working with you on your own landscape project.
